Ruth had a wonderful time in Shetland, supported by Irene. What a beautiful place it is! Ruth’s cousin Maureen and her husband, Chris, met Ruth and Irene at the airport, much to Ruth’s delight. It was a joyful reunion, and they all went for lunch to catch up.
Maureen and Chris kindly drove Ruth and Irene around Shetland, showing them the sights. . They took Ruth to visit the area where she used to live, her mother’s grave, and Patsy’s old house—places full of memories. Ruth especially enjoyed the sightseeing, met the Shetland ponies and even managed a good walk around the shops, including the two remaining charity shops. She was a little disappointed, though, as she remembered there used to be five.
A few locals recognised Ruth and stopped to chat, adding to the warmth of the trip. Irene also had the chance to learn more about Ruth’s background and upbringing through conversations with Maureen. It was a meaningful and memorable visit for them all.
