Accident Procedure.

Safety.

If a staff member is involved in an accident in the course of their duties, they should take appropriate steps to minimise the risk of further injury or danger to anyone else.

First Aid.

In the event of an accident, a person trained in first aid should be summoned to the scene.  Staff must know where the first aid equipment is kept.

Whilst waiting for the arrival of the trained person, various checks can be made on the casualty as identified in First Aid training.

If the G.P. or ambulance is called, please give details of the name, address, etc. of casualty and some indication of the type of the accident.  Please gather relevant database information from the files (this consists of name, age, D.O.B., home address, name of G.P., details of present medication, any allergies or other relevant health information).

A copy of the information sheet on the casualty can be taken to the hospital.  Be prepared to answer any further questions on the arrival of the G.P. or ambulance. 

Someone should be waiting and watching for the arrival of the ambulance in order to direct it to the house without delay.  A staff member should accompany the casualty to the hospital.

If the trained first aider summoned is not a senior member of staff, please also contact  the on-call person or line manager.
