Supervision Policy - Day Care
Hayfield believe that supervision is essential on a regular basis for the
support, development and well-being of all staff.
All Full and
Part-time staff on the permanent pay roll will be given supervision.
Supervision will be given to Relief Staff as often as is feasible and if
requested or required.
Supervisions will be delivered by the Director, Manager and Depute Manager.
Supervision will be 4 weekly where possible, unless either party has annual
leave or is on sick leave. There is an expectation that there will be 8-10
recorded supervision sessions in any 12 month period.
Supervisions will be given as follows...

absence of a supervisor, supervision will be undertaken by the senior line
manager.
Suggested Format
-
Supervision
for permanent staff should last 1 hour – 1 hour 15 minutes.
-
Supervision
for relief staff should last half to three quarters of an hour.
-
Supervision
must include as the main point, discussion about the person
himself/herself. This may include their concerns, frustrations, emotional
well-being concerning the work, but also private and personal issues (if
desired to be discussed by staff member).
-
Thereafter, the supervisee will present an agenda.
-
The
supervisor must address and record issues of poor working practice, specific
areas to be improved and training needs.
-
The
supervision should be recorded on the relevant form, signed and agreed and
returned to the appropriate line manager for filing in Personnel Files.
-
The
supervision will be confidential to supervisor and supervisee, although any
senior line manager may read if necessary.
-
Points to
action must be recorded and followed up within a reasonable timescale.
-
Points
not addressed, followed up or actioned will be recorded at subsequent
supervision sessions.
-
Repeated
non-action of points will result in an additional meeting with the Depute or
Manager.
-
In
exceptional circumstances the Director may be involved.
Supervision is important ! Both parties are responsible for ensuring sessions
occur regularly, are in-depth, fully recorded and signed as an accurate record.
